We Hold These Truths To Be Self-Evident. What Truths? II

The emphasis here is “Truths,” a word now promulgated in a culture of Orwellian Doublespeak characterized by linguistic acrobatics with reverse meanings, misinformation, and disinformation in American Public discourse since the rise of Donald Trump.” Doublespeak is the language that deliberately distorts, disguises, obscures, hides, or reverses the meaning of words.”

Statements like “War is Peace, Slavery is Freedom, Ignorance is Strength” is language designed to mislead and confuse people by distorting and eliminating truth through the labyrinths and impositions of subjugating power whose primary objective is toppling liberal democracies, which America epitomizes. What we see now according to Alexander Dugin, advisor and Political philosopher to Putin, is the rise of the Fourth Political Theory and the New Eurasianism as Russia’s defiant response to the global dominance and hegemony of the American Empire since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The cardinal rule of the New Eurasianism is to divide and destroy America by making it war against itself so that it assists itself in its own destruction.

Not only Doublethink but the “uniquack” of Double Speak besets our nation in the movement to transform American Democracy into an Authoritarian Plutocratic Autocracy cited as a primary objective of Vladimir Putin in his continuing contests with the West.

“The Ministry of Truth, the Ministry of Peace, the Ministry of Love, and the Ministry of Plenty are the four ministries of the government of Oceania in the 1949 dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, by George Orwell.[1]

The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture, and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation. These contradictions are not accidental, nor do they result from ordinary hypocrisy: they are deliberate exercises in doublethink a denial of truth and falsification of reality.”

Lee McIntyre reminds us in Post Truth and Disinformation, that we are living in an era of post-truth where facts are subordinated to feelings.

“The post-truth playbook goes like this; attack the truth-tellers, lie about any and everything, manufacture disinformation, encourage distrust and polarization, create confusion and cynicism, then claim that the truth is available only to the leader himself. The goal is not merely to get people to believe any particular false claim but to demoralize them with a tsunami of falsehoods so they begin to give up on the idea that truth can be known at all, outside a political context.”

“For now, however, the question at hand is not whether we have the proper theory of truth but how to make sense of the different ways that people subvert truth…..how we arrived at the post-truth era, when alternative facts replace facts, and feelings have more weight than evidence.”

While such misuse of language is prevalent in American political discourse, it deceptively creates a false reality mired in false consciousness and bad faith at the behest of corrupting and totalizing power. While the three Great Documents of Freedom, The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, the cornerstones of which our Democratic Constitutional Republic have been conceived, constructed, and firmly established, the true connotative and denotative meaning of those documents have not been sullied or corrupted by this plague of double meanings. Freedom is still freedom. Liberty is still liberty. Truth is still truth, no matter what we say or what we make them out to be or not to be.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident” is from the United States Declaration of Independence, written in 1776. It introduces a fundamental philosophical idea, emphasizing the inherent rights of individuals. Here are the key truths it refers to:

1. Equality: The belief that all men (people) are created equal.

2. Unalienable Rights: The idea that people are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. These include:
– Life
– Liberty
– The Pursuit of Happiness”

3. Governments Derive Power from the People: Governments are instituted among people, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

4. Right to Alter or Abolish Government: If a government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the people’s right to alter or abolish it and institute new governance that ensures their safety and happiness.

“These principles underpin the foundations of the United States, reflecting the Enlightenment ideals that influenced many leaders of the time. They have been interpreted and re-interpreted over the years, serving as a guiding light for notions of democracy and human rights.” While lies and disinformation germinate and proliferate in American Power politics and culture, they have yet to supplant or subvert the fundamental meaning and understanding of freedom, justice and equality of America as a free nation nor have they quenched the people’s desire for freedom.

The truth of the living documents remains the bedrock and bulwark of our fundamental understanding of Freedom and cannot be ultimately infused or refuted by false interpretations, misrepresentations,  fantasies, or warped ideologies of demagogues, tyrants, or despots.,

What I mean here is that no matter how grievously incendiary American Political Discourse becomes through the propagation of lies and more lies by adversaries that seek to permanently undermine and destroy the foundational truths of these great documents and ideals, we must remain steadfast in our interpretation and in our fortitude to keep them intact and uphold them in daily practice. Once we give into the lies and false interpretations of what freedom means and what America means to the people, we lose our country. And once we lose our country, we may never get it back. Contrary to the statement presumably made by a political talking head, “the American Constitution is just a G.D. piece of paper,” it is far more than that. It is a living, breathing document that has meaning and promise for the American people the last 250 years.

We cannot have a living democracy without subjective and objective truths. The truth is no person or party can be elected to office and then whimsically import or force that model of government on the people without the consent of the people. This includes but is not limited to extreme politicians, the uberwealthy, Plutocrats, Technocrats, Oligarchs, Right and left-wing extremists of any political party, body, or institution including but not limited to kleptocrats, Kakistocrats, Authoritarians, or any other individual or group of persons.

“Objective truth remains true for all people, no matter their culture or religious beliefs. These truths are fundamental. I don’t need to tell you the exact temperature of the fire to tell you that the fire is hot. In the same way, I don’t need to tell you that you need food to survive.”

And so it is with our Constitution. It is not to be read any way we decide to read it but read according to its intended value and meaning, which cannot be ignored, repudiated, subverted, or compromised.

Objective truth is self-evident; it cannot be negotiated, falsified, corrupted or airbrushed to mean anything other than what has been created to mean. We hold these truths to be self-evident, which everyone should understand,

“Subjective truth is similarly based on a person’s beliefs but not all people may agree with it. This kind of truth is present in things like religion. One person may believe that the existence of God is the truth, whereas another person may not.

People also form their judgments of a situation’s truth based on the information they have. However, this judgment may change should this person receive some new information. Disinformationists don’t change. Their mission is to replace facts with feelings and lie their way to power at the expense of our constitutional order and precepts,

Contrary to Orwells Ministry of Truth, a template of the right-wing extremist playbook and Trump’s MAGA stratagems of propaganda, ” War isnot peace. Freedom is not slavery. Ignorance is not strength. “The connotation and denotation of words are not the opposite of what they mean, have been defined or presently determined.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal and that they are endowed by their CREATOR with certain unalienable rights among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

If the fundamental truths of the Great Documents of American freedom and identity as a nation succumbs to distortions, lies, and continuing bonfires of political insanities,  and we fail to uphold and keep intact those documents, preserve their true meaning as the chief capstone of our great republic, and we abolish our understanding of what those documents truly mean, then they are no longer worth the paper those precious documents have been printed on, and we are no longer a people truly free to determine our destiny in the quest for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

“We still hold these truths to be self-evident and will hold the line on our unalienable rights to freedom.”
